The MSc Maritime Cybersecurity program is offered in two types of monitoring: a) with physical presence and b) online, with e-learning platform.
Shipping management is becoming more and more digital. The ship meets Information Technology (IT) and Business Technology (IT). Functions such as engine control, load management and navigation are performed through advanced IT applications. In the near future, MAS (Matitime Autonomous Systems) will control and guide ships from land. Digitization in the field of shipping increases its efficiency and effectiveness. But at the same time, it makes it a target for cyber attacks. In the three years 2017-2020, cyber attacks targeting shipping companies increased by 900%. With more than 90% of the world’s freight transported by sea and 30 million people enjoying a cruise each year, a successful cyber attack on the shipping industry could be catastrophic, cost millions, destroy businesses and endanger human lives. lives. These threats are taken seriously by regulators and traders in the industry, who require action by shipowners and operators, charterers, ports and shipping companies. The International Maritime Organization (IMO – INTERNATIONAL MARITIME ORGANIZATION), aware of the risk, has instructed the shipping companies to take the necessary measures for their cyber security. Cybersecurity must now be closely monitored by the management of a shipping company, with indicators and operating rules, as it is necessary to ensure the continuity of its activities.
Given these data, the global demand for cybersecurity experts in the field of shipping is very high. Of the 3 million cybersecurity experts we need, in addition to the existing ones, as estimated by the World Economic Forum (WEF), shipping needs a large percentage.
The MSc Maritime Cybersecurity program equips graduates with the skills they need today and in the future to protect shipping and maritime transport from cyber attacks. It combines theoretical training and practical training. The modules offered cover all areas of the shipping industry at risk from cybercrime: shipping company management, intercompany communication, onboard technology, port operations and regulatory requirements.
Graduates can work as Information Security Managers, Information Security Auditors, Security Managers or Architects, Senior Security Engineers, Shipping Data Protection Experts or in public sector regulators and auditors. They can also continue their studies to obtain an MPhil degree or a doctorate.

The instructors are certified BSI (British Standards Institution) ISO 27001, which is in compliance with the guidelines of the International Maritime Forum of Petroleum Companies (OCIMF)
The courses are enriched with seminars, lectures and workshops, with speakers from top executives of shipping and information technology, who transport students to the “field” by analyzing facts.
Studying at BCA, you live in Greece but you are exposed to the learning experience designed and provided by a high-level British or Swiss University and you are awarded the same, Bachelor & Master degrees, awarded to UK and Swiss students., which are recognized in the Greek and international labor market. In addition, you will benefit from the digital technology with the specialized online educational platforms developed by BCA and incorporated into the Blended Learning philosophy.
The successful course of BCA is certified by the multiple awards it has received during the years of its educational operation. One of the most important prizes was its announcement of being the “COLLEGE OF THE YEAR”, awarded by the Education Leaders Awards Special Committee. More information on the BCA College Awards can be found here.
The programmes of study provided by BCA College are further enriched with industrial visits, seminars and lectures organised during the year in parallel with the curriculum. These co-curricular activities bridge the academic theory taught in classrooms with current professional practice, transfer students’ know-how and expertise in real time, and connect them with renowned executives, entrepreneurs, and people with key positions in their field.
Applicants can be admitted to the course as long as they possess:
