The module aims to introduce students to the key ideas, functions and practices of leadership and management, and to make students understand how these latter functions assist in managing and structuring a shipping company. Furthermore, it aims to identify the importance of the human element and human factors in shipping, and analyse the principles of safety and quality management as applied to a shipping business. Finally, it examines management aspects in shipping organisations and services from an entrepreneurial point of view with the analysis of best practices of the industry.
