Conceptual and Historical Issues of Psychology

The module equips students with key thinking, as well as the history and philosophy and key figures of psychology. Topics to be covered include the precursors to the founding of scientific psychology, early schools of psychology, philosophy of science, body and mind, what is it to be human, schools of philosophy. Students will learn about the theories developed by major figures in the history of psychology such as Sigmund Freud, Charles Darwin, William James, Jean Piaget, and Lev Vygotsky, and will become familiar with the conceptual approaches developed within such movements as psychoanalysis, evolutionary psychology, social psychology, intelligence testing.
