The large shipping companies have a fleet management room. From there they communicate with their ships and control them in real time. A state-of-the-art fleet management room simulation is now available to BCA Shipping Business students.

The new room uses the latest IT technology, simulating the way a shipping company’s management oversees a wide range of fleet operations, significantly reducing the workload of masters, preventing failures, providing solutions and utilizing information that receives, in real time, from anywhere in the globe.

BCA, with a tradition of 50 years in the training of shipping management professionals, who have emerged as top executives of Greek and foreign shipping companies, collaborated to create this room with MarineTraffic, the largest and fastest growing ship data collection company, providing information and analytics on shipping worldwide.

Real-time mapping of ships is MarineTraffic’s core business. By collecting data from the network of ground stations it has created and reinforcing this information with data it receives from satellites, it provides important information (insights) for shipping and companies operating in the industry. The primary goal is for this information to be easily accessible to the public through the platform and the mobile application.

Counting over six million users each month, MarineTraffic is an innovative platform that serves a wide range of people and businesses from around the world.

The Marine Traffic platform is a creation of Greeks with headquarters in Athens, however the company operates globally, with the team operating almost entirely from a distance from around the world.

With the BCA partnership, the platform also acquires an educational function: not only for students but also for employees already in shipping companies.

Greece proves, even in times of crisis, that she can innovate and play a leading role in the international arena, proudly continuing a tradition of 5,000 years of seamanship.
