Tourism: a growing “industry” with almost zero unemployment

The turnover of tourism worldwide accounts for 10.4% of global GDP and 20.8 % of the Greek GDP in 2019 (WTTC, 2020), while it is estimated that the global tourism industry will continue growing and is expected to reach USD 3 trillion by 2024 (Euromonitor, 2020). Greece, with an annual turnover of more than 21.3 billion Euro in the tourism industry, holds a particularly high position in the world ranking. The tourism and hospitality market, both Greek and global, needs qualified executives who want to pursue career in a demanding but charming and “cosmopolitan” field.

Comprehensive studies in the field of tourism business management were first offered in Greece by BCA, decades ago. A large number of specialised executives who have a career in Greek and multinational hotel businesses have studied at BCA. This is a further advantage for new students, since an extensive and powerful network of cooperation and mutual support for BCA alumni and students is already in place.

Today, the Tourism and Hotel Studies programme offered by BCA College is recognised as one of the leading programmes in Europe and is validated by the QAA (Quality Assurance Agency), which is the UK Authority supervising tertiary education institutes in the UK. BCA has also entered in an academic partnership agreement with the leading Swiss schools Glion and Les Roches, which are consistently ranked among the top 5 in the world. This means that, apart from the multitude of common educational activities with the participation of professors from these Swiss institutes, the students of the department can study at BCA College for the first two years and complete their final year of study in Switzerland, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree from Glion or Les Roches.

A special innovation introduced by BCA is the 5-star Smart Hotel simulation created in the City Campus. An actual hotel with a reception, rooms, restaurant and bar, exclusively for the training of students, so that they can combine theoretical education with practical training every day.

The tourism industry offers many career and development opportunities, as it covers a wide range of sectors, so that all graduates can find the position that inspires and satisfies them. Tourism establishments offer both Front-of-the-House and Back-of-the-House jobs, allowing people with different personalities to pursue a career in top management positions. If you are interested in a career in a sector with 100% employment, high salaries, a pleasant environment and international prospects, tourism can offer you more than you expect.
