Project Management – New Construction & Dry Docking

This module covers the following topics:

  1. Information to students about the different contractual documents (mutually signed between Yard and Owner: contract, spec, main drawings, etc) and which constitute the basis of the subsequent cooperation Owner-Yard, up to the vessel’s delivery.
  2. Familiarization of the students about the correspondence with Yard and Class, during the different phases of: plan approvals, site supervision, dock & sea trials, daily inspections, etc and how, when the Owner’s comments are submitted.
  3. Information about a typical “organization chart” of a shipyard, cooperation with the different Yard’s departments, in order to avoid delays and obtain promised quality.
  4. Description of the daily activities in the shipyard (either for newbuildings, or existing vessels) and how the Owner’s representatives cooperate with the Class surveyors, experts of equipment Makers, Flag inspectors, local Agents, yard Brokers, Immigration Authorities, etc.
  5. Details and methods for the daily quality inspections, how, when, where inspection results are recorded and describe methods applied up to the verification of the necessary corrective actions.
  6. Preparation procedures for the integrated control of the Yard during various milestone events for new buildings, but also dock & sea trials (for both new buildings and existing ships), plus for on time deliveries, by using proper and effective checklists.
  7. Organisation of a series of meetings with yard representatives, either planned or occasional / kick-off meetings, preparation / issue of “minutes of meetings” (MOMs) and how they are used for checking the respective obligations of each party.
  8. Familiarization for the applicable legal frame and for the vessel’s compliance with applicable rules and regulations (international, national and regional) for various types and sizes of merchant vessels, either for newbuildings, or existing ships and also checking their certificates, in order to be clear and free from memos, recommendations and Conditions of Class.
