Music and movement experiences for children

The module will introduce students to various musical activities and offer them the background knowledge and skills needed to plan and implement creative music and movement education experiences for children in early years. Activities will include singing, listening to music, rhythmic activities, creating music, using instruments with children, multicultural music, dance and movement, musical games, music for children with special needs, and using music spontaneously in the classroom. Methods of rhythm development (C. Orff, E. Gordon and more) and strategies to encourage child participation in activities will be covered too.  The ways in which music and movement support child development across the board—physical, social, emotional, cognitive will be discussed.
