The module aims to provide students with an overall knowledge regarding the production and/or extraction of important commodities and products (grains, coal, bauxite, ores, phosphates, sugar, timber, oil, petroleum products, gases, steel products, packaged cargoes), and the major shipping routes. Moreover, it aims to provide students with an understanding of load line markings and load line geographical zones, of cargo properties regarding loading, transportation by sea and discharging, of the loading and discharging methods, of the different equipment used to handle and stow cargoes safely, and of the documentation associated with cargo operations (NOR, Cargo Plans, Mate’s Receipts, Statement of Facts, B/Ls, Port Logs, Notices of Protest).
