This module focuses on the importance of strategy in a turbulent environment.

Outlines the schools of thought in the strategy literature.

Analyses the external environment of the firm (PEST Analysis) and the competitive environment (Porter’s 5 Forces Model). Analyses the internal environment, the resource-based view and the knowledge-based view of the firm. It also refers to the value chain, SWOT analysis, competitive strategies, growth strategies in different settings, turnaround strategies in different businesses.

The importance of strategic alliances and how to build strategic alliances, how to plan and initiate organisational change is discussed. Additionally, students will be exposed to the importance of concepts such as quality management in organisations, internationalisation development strategies, change management theory, impact of organisational culture and change and finally demonstrate how to empower others to embrace change.
