Corporate Communications and Crisis in the Cruise Industry

Students will be firstly introduced to the concept and the practice of cruise corporate communication.

The latter topic, cruise crisis management, will be analysed in detail. Students should gain an understanding of the framework and tools necessary to develop the expertise and confidence to be prepared for a cruise crisis. The analysis of the theoretical framework available in combination with case studies examination, students will be asked to think strategically, develop robust proactive crisis plans and make recommendations to solve cruises crisis-related business challenges. Additionally, to a general overview of the existing theory and scope, this module will address the various interactions that may be required between cruise enterprises leaders, the crisis management team, the communication experts and a full spectrum of key actors such as stakeholders, consumers, governmental agencies among others involved in crisis management. An emphasis shall be given to the role of new technologies, such as the social media, as a tool for managing the cruise crisis via effective communication.
