Playing the strongest "hand" in the job market

Accountants coveted in the job market - Why prospective students should choose this direction – Employment prospects and rates

Compared to other employment categories the prospects for those studying economics seem heartening.

Despite the uncertainty resulting from the crisis, which has overshadowed  developments in almost all areas of the labor market; experts estimate that those who study economics enjoy comparative advantages over those who study other subjects, given that in recent years the importance of economics in society, politics and education has rapidly increased.

The reason?  The economic crisis in our country makes the need  for leading scientists on the subject area of economics and related disciplines imperative. It is every day, after all, that families seek the advice of experts in the field of finance like  accountants, tax consultants, economists, etc.,  due to the new measures frequently implemented which have negatively impacted their family budgets and planning.

Accountants are especially sought after, as they are called upon to help companies and individuals make sense of the perplexing information received from the tax authorities and decode the financial information we receive daily.

Regarding the prospects for achieving an interesting and profitable career after graduation, Mr. Anthony Mouzakis, accountant-tax consultant by profession, stressed to protothema.gr: «Accounting graduates do not find it difficult to find work because they possess a knowledge base that is essential for the labor market. Compared to other disciplines, they can more easily find work, because of their understanding of  the financial, accounting and tax affairs which gives them the ability to work in any kind of business regardless of its size. At the same time, they are considered more competitive in the professional arena – especially if they specialize their knowledge further with a master's program. "

With regards to  specialized knowledge, abilities and skills that an accounting student acquires, Mr. Mouzakis replied: "After achieving systematic and substantial theoretical training and hands on experience in accounting, the student has acquired all the professional skills which render him/her an essential contributor for the smooth operation of a business. "  Mr. Mouzakis also said that if a graduate decides to enrich his/her knowledge through further study and achieves a postgraduate degree in  Accounting & Finance or an MBA, then he/she will be sought after in the labor market.

At a time when more and more specialized professionals are in demand, graduates of economics and accounting departments, have the opportunity to work in a wide range of business activities, and can view the future with optimism.

They can work as professionals in both the Public and the Private sector, in financial institutions (banks) and as independent professionals.

"The accountant who specializes in Greek Accounting Standards, and has combined his/her bachelors with a masters, which will serve them later in their professional career will be most in demand in the coming years," says Mr. Mouzakis. Regarding earnings he stated that "an accounting graduate starts as an assistant and progresses to an accountant-tax consultant role, and his earnings grow depending on experience and continuous development of knowledge through graduate programs and seminars."
