The MSc Shipping Business postgraduate programme focuses on the purely business side of shipping, providing students with the analytical and research skills to assess data in a shipping company and make administrative as well as strategic decisions. At the same time, the programme examines the operational, practical aspects of shipping jobs, so that graduates can assume positions of responsibility in the shipping sector in Greece and abroad.

Programme Characteristics:

  1. MSc Shipping Business offers an ideal ratio of theoretical and practical knowledge that guarantees the immediate placement of graduates in the job market.
  2. The responsibility for the programme lies with the University of West London, an award-winning University distinguished in business studies, which awards the relevant degrees.
  3. If they wish, students can participate remotely in all of the department’s activities, i.e. lectures, exercises, assignments, speeches and workshops, through the Blended Learning system and the innovative digital platform that has been created by BCA specifically for this purpose.

Entry Requirements

Studying at BCA, you live in Greece but you are exposed to the learning experience designed and provided by a high-level British or Swiss University and you are awarded the same, Bachelor & Master degrees, awarded to UK and Swiss students., which are recognized in the Greek and international labor market. In addition, you will benefit from the digital technology with the specialized online educational platforms developed by BCA and incorporated into the Blended Learning philosophy.


The successful course of BCA is certified by the multiple awards it has received during the years of its educational operation. One of the most important prizes was its announcement of being the “COLLEGE OF THE YEAR”, awarded by the Education Leaders Awards Special Committee. The programmes of study provided by BCA College are further enriched with industrial visits, seminars and lectures organised during the year in parallel with the curriculum. These co-curricular  activities bridge the academic theory taught in classrooms with current professional practice, transfer students’ know-how and expertise in real time, and connect them with renowned executives, entrepreneurs, and people with key positions in their field.

Applicants can be admitted to the course as long as they possess:

  • a second class honours degree from a UK University, or
  • a Ptychion of 6.0 and above from  an AEI University or
  • a Ptychion of 7.0 and above from a TEI University, or
  • a Bachelor from an American University with GPA 2.75 and above or equivalent qualification.

Applicants are also required to submit one of the following certifications:

  • IELTS: a minimum score of 6.5 (with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component of the test)
  • Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE): Pass at C1 level
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): C and above
  • Cambridge English: First (FCE): B and above
  • Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE): P( Pass) and above
  • Pearson Academic (PTE): 53 (with a minimum score of 51 in each component of the test)
  • BCA IELTS Placement Test: a minimum score of 6.5 (with a minimum score of 5.5 in each component of the test)
  • Other English language qualifications may be considered.

Intensive English classes are provided to those students who do not meet the English requirements.

Director of Maritime Studies​

Apostolos Poulovassilis

Mr. Poulovassilis joined Lloyd’s Register of Shipping in 1989 and had a distinguished 25-year career with the leading Classification Society, holding the post of Regional Marine Manager, Europe, Middle East & Africa from 2009 until 2015.

For the past five years, he has held leading positions for Ship Management and Operating companies and currently is the Chief Operating Officer of a prominent Greek Shipping Company. He is a highly respected and experienced Senior Executive of the Maritime Industry and is also actively involved in numerous joint industry projects.

He holds a BEng and MSc from Imperial College and University College London, respectively.

Ilias Pavlou

Programme Manager

Elias Pavlou

Mr Elias Pavlou was educated both in Australia and the UK. He received his first degree in mathematics by the University of Wollongong, Australia. He continued his tertiary studies in the University of NSW, Australia where he acquired a Masters in Statistics. Later on, while working in the city of London as an analyst, he completed a Masters degree in Finance at the University of London, Birkbeck college.

Mr Pavlou has been working at the Business College of Athens since 2009 where he teaches quantitative modules and research methods both at undergraduate and postgraduate level. For the last 5 years he has been a Programme Manager at postgraduate and undergraduate level in the fields of Shipping and Accounting & Finance.

Prior to his teaching career he had been working for about 15 years as a Research Analyst for blue chip companies both in Australia and the City of London. His duties involved proactively supporting the investment management decision making in the areas of performance, fund appraisals and pricing.

All postgraduate programmes, in addition to the Master’s degree, also offer intermediate –supplementary postgraduate awards, such as the Postgraduate Certificate and the Postgraduate Diploma. These postgraduate titles, which can also be obtained with a degree or honors, are awarded to those students who have completed a part of the postgraduate course.
